The Amalfi Coast, the last stop on my European holiday and possibly the best. Having spent the previous 3 days in Tuscany, we drove down to Naples (about 4 hours drive, but easy highway roads), dropped our hire car off and took a bus from Naples airport to Sorrento. From there we started our Amalfi Coast experience in the heart of Amalfi which meant anoth 1 hour bus trip from Sorrento to Amalfi. It’s not a far distance but the winding narrow roads means you don’t get anywhere in a hurry.

Once we finally arrived in Amalfi after a full day of travel, I was thankful for the hotel we picked to stay at, Residence Del Duca. Situated 5 mins walk from the harbour and bus stop and right by the Amalfi Cathedral, it was the perfect location with approximately 75 steps to the top, which only felt like a lot when carrying heavy suitcases. The room was clean and beautifully decorated and included breakfast which was one of the better European breakfasts I had and served on a quaint balcony setting with friendly service – it was definitely value for money.

With only 6 days until the end of my trip, I decided not to stay in Positano but did a day trip from Amalfi. I recommend taking the ferry over not the bus, it’s a little more cost wise but totally worth it avoiding the painful roads and overcrowding on the bus. As the photos suggest, Positano is amazing! We did a walk around the town, bit of shopping and lunch and finished with setting up under an umbrella for the rest of the day – again this is also worth the money, you’ll enjoy the beach much more comfortable shaded from the sun on a lounge bed.

From Amalfi I also day tripped to Ravello which is easy to get to via bus (although very crowded, it was quite an experience). Ravello is a must-see with gorgeous views and stunning old Villa’s to explore, beauty was at every turn.img_0758 img_0782 img_0806

After spending 3 days in Amalfi we ventured back to Sorrento (another awful bus ride) and stayed at Casa Sorrento B&B. This place was awesome – huge bedrooms, amazing breakfast and right in the heart of the town, close to the bus and train station.

Sorrento itself is ok, you can spend a day exploring the area then the rest of the time use it as a base to day trip out of. The highlight of my Amalfi coast experience was doing a sailing trip to Capri. I booked this on viatour.com and it was an incredible, well-organised small tour for 12 people.
